Tim Ackerley

Water Treatment Specialist
Started career with Associated Lead Manufacturers mid 1970’s in the quality control laboratory. Duties included sampling and testing of raw materials and finished products to BS standards along with treatment of cooling water, air monitoring and quality control reporting. Later employed by a water company, progressed through the water quality department, supervising the Filter & Building team until becoming Technical Services Manager in 1989. This was a new post to deal with the forthcoming regulation and AMP 1! Contributed to the Water UK leakage initiative, also becoming a member on a variety of national and regional groups including the use of GIS within the water industry. Training staff in emergency planning and operational standby duties, Tim has also presented talks on the River Dee system to many varied groups. From 1997 he was Treatment Manager upon the merger of two local water companies and gained a MBA during the process. He later chaired the River Dee management committee, working closely with the Environment Agency and two other major abstractors. Tim has also managed an outsourced chemical evaporator process for Veolia Water and been a Water Treatment Plant Project Engineer on a power station for E.ON, along with later becoming the station’s Environment Officer. He has been an active member of the Institute of Water since 1982. Worked as an associate with a water training specialist (2015 -2016) and acting water consultant/Engineering Manager for a company manufacturing and supplying water filters and jugs.

Mike Bowen

Incident Management Specialist
Mike has over 40 years’ experience within the Water Industry in the UK, mainly in customer service, control room management, alarm management and incident management. He has experience in coordinating and running incidents, monitoring and control of alarms and allocation of resources. He is aware of the intricacies of incident management and has designed training interventions for duty managers.

Terry Chesworth

Waste Water Network Specialist
Terry has over 30 years’ experience in the management of wastewater networks, with a proven track record in the fields of contract and project management, environmental and financial regulation, operational management and asset management. Terry has also played a key role in the development and delivery of training and behavioural change initiatives to support major business and process change programmes, including improving partnership working in contract and programme delivery. Terry has recently successfully undertaken a series of bespoke training courses to improve the performance and relationships of client and contractor staff who are managing long-term operational maintenance contracts.

Keith Edwards

Chartered Engineer
Keith Edwards is a Graduate of London’s Kingston University and is a Chartered Civil Engineer, Water and Environmental Manager and Environmentalist. Keith is a life-long Water Industry practitioner with extensive competency development and training experience. He has more than 35 years’ experience as an Engineer and Manager for Anglian Water and East Surrey Water. Keith has held many senior management roles dealing with Water Distribution and Treatment, Sewage Treatment and Sewerage Collection Networks. Keith is a qualified Teacher and an Assessor and for the last twelve years, he has focused on training and the development of competency within the operational workforce and is currently a Learning and Development Specialist delivering training and advice to students at all levels within the Industry.

Thomas Enright

Chartered Water and Environmental Manager
A Chartered Water and Environmental Manager with over 28 years water and utilities sector experience across programme management, capital delivery, business improvement, safety leadership, environment and corporate social responsibility. Thomas holds an MBA from Anglia Ruskin University and post-graduate qualifications from leading institutions including the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. Passionate about responsible business; key roles have included Site Manager on the Dublin Water Conservation Project, Project Director for the 630km mains renewal programme at Veolia Water and Head of Health, Safety and Sustainability at Affinity Water.

As an independent consultant Thomas works directly with utility companies and contractors to drive cross functional and cross business improvement. He is a STEM ambassador and a qualified L3 trainer.

Ahmed Esat

Water Network Specialist
Ahmed has 28+ years’ commercial and operational experience from progressive management roles in UK public and Global private sector. Ahmed’s expertise lies in multi-utility infrastructure, operations, asset management, business development, consultancy management, stakeholder engagement, risk and auditing, and investment benefits realisation, where he has successfully led strategic projects in fast-paced change environments. Ahmed also has extensive lecturing and assessing experience in engaging with partner universities and professional bodies conducting design and delivery for Business Studies, Leadership, Management, Built Environment, Procurement and Utility sector disciplines. Ahmed is currently completing his Executive MBA programme at Lancaster University Management School.

Peter Ferenczy

Chartered Engineer
Peter is a chartered engineer with 30 years of experience in the water industry. Over 15 years were as the Engineering and Asset Manager with Bournemouth Water proving experience in the fields of contract and project management, health and safety, environmental and financial regulation, network analysis, water resources and asset management.

He is an independent consultant currently working with Wessex Water on assisting with their PR19 business plan and water resources management plan.

Ian Horton

Water Network Specialist
Ian has worked in the Water Industry for 34 years. Over the last two years he has worked with many water companies which has allowed him to broaden his experience with the changes in technology and the individual characteristics that those companies adhere to.

The roles that he has undertaken undertook has given him a broad spectrum of experience covering Water Network, Water Production and latterly Waste Water. He is currently developing and designing training courses and carrying out assessments and IQA duties.

John Lyons

Water Network Specialist
John Lyons has over 30 years experience in the water industry. Specialising in clean water, John spent 27 years with United Utilities with a career spanning Asset Management, Water Resource and Production Planning, and Water Network Operations and Maintenance.

As an independent consultant for the past 3 years, John has provided training as well as onging consultancy in water network projects to a variety of clients including NWC Saudi Arabia, RPS, Welsh Water, Thames Water and currently Irish Water.

Stuart Owen

Operations Specialist
With over 25 years’ experience in the water industry, Stuart has a wealth of operational knowledge gained working for utility companies and contract organisations across the Northern and Southern Hemisphere with managerial responsibility for water network maintenance and capital / mains rehabilitation schemes covering design, research and use of innovative practices, programme and delivery.

Stuart is currently Infrastructure Manager for a utility company and has sat as representative on steering groups for use of innovative materials in street works and on the Water UK policy working group (Best practice for incident management – 2018 Freeze/Thaw Event).

Oberon Praties

Waste Water Treatment Specialist
Oberon is a water industry specialist with over 25 years in the business. Having gained a Ph.D in Chemistry, she has undertaken a variety of roles within the business, her main focus being on the water, wastewater and sludge treatment processes. She gained status as a chartered environmentalist through the Institute of Water Officers and is dedicated to improving awareness of managing the impact of the industry on the environment through training and assessment. She has been involved in the design and delivery of many water industry training programmes across the UK.

Nick Preston

Chartered Engineer
Nick has over 35 years experience in the Construction and Water industries, he specialises in Operational performance improvement, Asset Management and Engineering across a wide range of engineering disciplines and sectors. Nick is passionate about developing the people of our future; it is through our people that we can innovate, improve customer service, research and develop new products, build, own, maintain and operate assets – to improve profitability. Nick has worked extensive with and for Water companies in the UK, Europe and Middle East most recently as a consultant providing Expert Witness, business improvement strategies, leakage reduction, pipeline rehabilitation options, R&D, leadership training and mentoring.

Martin Ralls

Water Network Specialist
A clean water networks specialist with over 20 years operational and leadership experience in areas such as Network Control, Asset Optimisation and Leakage Management. Martin also has extensive change management expertise with a proven track record in delivering large scale transformation initiatives.

Working as an independent consultant, Martin has worked with the majority of UK Water Companies over the past 6 years, focussing on accredited and bespoke competency development and training in areas of clean water network operations, leadership & management and hydraulics awareness.

John Ringham

Howard Snowden

Chartered Engineer
Howard is a multi-disciplined chartered engineer with over 40 years experience in the water industry. His formative years were with Yorkshire Water Authority were he gained experience in the design, operation and management of water supply and waste water facilities in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Moving into a consultancy role, he was responsible for the design, construction and commissioning of capital works for a number of UK water supply companies.

During the past 25 years, Howard was responsible for the management and operation of the water supply undertaking on the Island of Jersey. During Howard’s time at Jersey Water he was responsible for the completion of Queen’s Valley Reservoir and the replacement of the original thermal sea water distillation desalination plant, with a modern electrically operated plant. In recent years, Howard has been training local college students and mentoring graduate engineers and technicians.

Steve Whipp

Chartered Engineer
Steve Whipp, a chartered Civil Engineer with over 40 years post qualification experience, is an independent consultant and since retiring from United Utilities where he was the Head of Innovation he has held a number of roles including as a visiting Professor to Cranfield University’s School of Water Science. Steve’s background lies in research and development particularly as applied to modern asset management practice. He has also developed a strong interest in embedding innovation into business. Steve has an international reputation for research leadership in water.

Keith Williams

Operations Specialist
With over 40 years operational experience in the water industry Keith has a wealth of operational knowledge as both an operations manager and then director. With a water utility company he was responsible for mains rehabilitation, estates, water abstraction and treatment production, water network, metering and operations control function as well as involvement in incident/event management. He successfully managed the operational merger of two water companies ensuring continued excellent operational good practice. He is a L3 qualified teacher.

Ian Wilson

Waste Water and Trade Effluent Specialist
Ian has over 30 years’ experience within the Water Industry ranging from Water Treatment microbiologist, Pollution Control (equivalent to Environment Agency officer role), Sewage Treatment, various managerial roles covering multi-functional operational and non-operational teams, to company-wide managerial responsibility for Trade Effluent Control and Policy. Including being representative on Water UK Policy working groups e.g. National Healthcare Waste Water Discharge Guidelines 2010.
