Level 5 Award in Management of Risk & Resilience in the Water & Environmental Industries – Learning & Development Associates

This qualification is designed for Water & Environmental Industry Field Managers, Operational Managers, Project Managers, Department Heads, and other practising Senior and Middle Managers. The qualification will develop your technical skills and understanding of the Management of Risk & Resilience and improve your performance. It will encourage strategic thinking at this level of management, to foster business improvement.

Award learners will be taught how to take responsibility for planning and developing courses of action, including, where relevant, responsibility for the work of others and how to exercise autonomy and judgement within broad parameters and to address the knowledge and understanding of the Management of Risk & Resilience.

The qualification addresses the practical competencies required for the effective management of Risk & Resilience and provides evidence of organisational competence for Regulators and other stakeholders.

Course Tutors

Geoff Miller

Geoff is a water industry professional with some 50 years’ experience. He is a chartered civil engineer, a chartered environmental manager, and a certified risk manager with a focus on Enterprise Risk Management. He is a former senior manager with extensive operational experience at FTSE 100 level in an international, multi-utility environment. Whilst Head of Risk Management for a major UK water company the team were named European Risk Management Team of the Year. He was the water sector’s representative before the UK Joint Parliamentary Committee of Enquiry on the draft Civil Contingencies Bill. Geoff’s work to establish the first regional utilities resilience forum has been nationally recognized. He has played a leading role in drafting BS, EN, and ISO standards in the water sector for 25 years and is currently Technical Secretary to the Water UK Standards Board.

Jim Oldroyd

Jim is a Water Scientist, enthusiastic Teacher and IQA with an extensive and varied operational management background underpinned by professional qualifications. Instrumental and influential in the development of qualifications and apprenticeships in the Water Industry.

He has a proven ability of effective asset and man management in the Water Industry and has worked for a major UK Water Company for many years.

Assessment

Candidates must demonstrate the level of knowledge and/or skills described in the units. Assessment is the process of measuring a candidate’s knowledge and understanding against the standards set in the qualification. Each candidate is required to produce evidence which demonstrates their achievement of all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit.

Upon successful completion of their qualification, learners are able to progress to further learning within the suite of Water Level 5 Qualifications – i.e. completing an Award or Certificate
and topping up to Foundation Degree and on to Honours Degree.

Learners may also wish to further their ongoing personal and professional development by accessing other qualifications.
